KCCI Meet & Greet
Our last M&G, held on the 8th September was well supported with over 60 guests attending. Hosted by SB Regional Council, KCCI members were informed that work on the first section of the CBD Transformation Project would commence on Alford Street, between Youngman & Glendon Streets. Work is scheduled to begin in November 2020 and the whole project will encompass the area bounded by Kingaroy, Youngman, Haly & Alford Streets costing $11.3 million. Completion of the whole project is set for June 2022 and Council will be liaising with businesses in the affected area to ensure minimal disruption during this time.
SB Regional Council will be employing local contractors as much as possible and the scope of work will entail below ground & above-ground work. Underground work will include upgrading water, sewage & telecommunications infrastructure to “future proof” the CBD and above ground works will include widening of footpaths to cater for ease of access, outdoor dining areas and better disabled access amongst many other exciting elements. More parking bays will be introduced to cater for people with disabilities as well as RV’s & caravans to encourage tourists to visit the CBD area.
KCCI have fielded concerns from businesses around landscaping, parking and how business’s will effectively operate whilst construction stages are being carried out. Council will engage with these businesses to understand their concerns and reduce disruption as much as possible.
President, Damien Martoo & Executive member Daniel Pelcl will be representatives on the Kingaroy Transformation Project Team and SB Regional Council will have a site office for the project at 180 Kingaroy Street. This office will be open from the end of September for anyone requiring more information.
Mayor Brett Otto thanked past & present SB Regional Councillors & KCCI members for working patiently with council over several years while funding was sourced.
This is an exciting time for Kingaroy, so let’s be patient because once the project is completed – it will make Kingaroy businesses & residents will be Town Proud.
